  1. The Eucharist is the overriding theme in Flannery's writing, at times overt and at times subtle but always present. Incarnation and the Paschal Mystery is at the core of our Christian lives and if one is true to art, beauty and life then it is logical that the Real Presence is the focal point of good writing. Flannery O'Connor wrote about a particular people at a particular time and the reader can observe how God's grace is present. We are like the characters in the stories, and it is a matter of how much shock we need to break us and experience the grace of God.
